LINES, by JESSIE GODDARD BROMAN First Line: The winding road that curves about a hill Last Line: The winding road that curves about a hill. | ||||||||
The winding road that curves about a hill -- The wave that breaks upon a tawny beach -- There Beauty draws a line to state her will, Elusive as a world beyond our reach. The wave that breaks upon a tawny beach With smooth arcs edged in pearls of fragile lace; Elusive as a world beyond our reach, Is lovely as the curve of youthful face With smooth arcs edged in pearls of fragile lace, The fleeting line, too beautiful, too brief, Is lovely as the curve of youthful face Or earthward fall of purple frosted leaf. The fleeting line, too beautiful, too brief, When arching summer rainbow flings it wide Or earthward fall of purple frosted leaf Renews the pattern found in ocean tide. When arching summer rainbow flings it wide, There Beauty draws a line to state her will; Renews the pattern found in ocean tide ...
