SNOWLESS WINTER, by MERTA M. BROOKINGS First Line: The earth is bleak and bare Last Line: Above the lake. Subject(s): Cold; Winter | ||||||||
The earth is bleak and bare. Sharp cold is everywhere. The wind is wild. The stars are shining clear. The ground is brown and sere. The moon's pale glow Is shining through the night A cool, clean, crystal light. There is no snow. The rivers roar and leap. The trees are still asleep. They dare not wake. They stand there on the hill Though winds call high and shrill Above the lake. | Other Poems of Interest...LOOKING EAST IN THE WINTER by JOHN HOLLANDER WINTER DISTANCES by FANNY HOWE WINTER FORECAST by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN AT WINTER'S EDGE by JUDY JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 34 by JAMES JOYCE |
