MY STAR, by INA LADD BROWN First Line: Once, in the velvet blackness of the night Last Line: To the glory of that star. Subject(s): Stars; Sun | |||
Once, in the velvet blackness of the night I saw a single star -- Golden and wondrous, just outside my reach, As dreams so often are. I watched it with a longing in my heart That it were always mine; That I could place it where forever I Alone might see it shine. It could not be -- the morning came, and then The star seemed out of sight; The sun shone on the day's realities; Gone was the wondrous night. And yet, though work contentment brings each day In sunshine and the things that are -- In darkness still my heart turns back again To the glory of that star. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN AGAINST EXCESS OF SEA OR SUN OR REASON by WILLIAM MEREDITH WHY I WAKE EARLY by MARY OLIVER |
