WE KNOW, by MARTHA TAYLOR BROWN First Line: My heart and I know many things Last Line: Why tides must rise and poets sing. Subject(s): Hearts | ||||||||
My heart and I know many things: We know why singing birds have wings; Why moths, enthralled by mad desire Would rather die than shun the fire; Why spirits bruised can make brave show, While happiness must softly go; Why music's mystic trinity Holds peace, heartache and ecstacy; Why Woman, since the world began Feeds drop by drop, her heart to Man; How daisies dance and grasses wave Impartially above each grave; Why bees must hive, fruit fill the pod; How each soul fashions his own God. My heart and I know many a thing, Why tides must rise and poets sing. | Other Poems of Interest...SENT ON A SHEET OF PAPER WITH A HEART SHAPE CUT OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF IT by JOHN HOLLANDER CARDIOLOGICAL by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS NOCTURNE OF REMEMBERED SPRING by CONRAD AIKEN NO TANGOS TONIGHT by STEPHEN DOBYNS COZY APOLOGIA; FOR FRED by RITA DOVE |
