THE SINNER, by MARGARET E. BRUNER First Line: They whispered when she passed - gave knowing looks Last Line: It seemed as if she trod on holy ground. | ||||||||
They whispered when she passed -- gave knowing looks That hinted vastly more than what was said; Inferring that her past held darkest nooks -- Her reputation was a tattered shred. And yet, she walked among them calm, serene, Like one who from deep suffering had found An inner peace -- a staff on which to lean -- It seemed as if she trod on holy ground. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A MENDER OF CLOCKS by MARGARET E.
