IN AN EMPTY HOUSE, by IVAN ALEKSEYEVITCH (ALEXEYVICH) BUNIN Poet's Biography First Line: From the walls the paper's blue is vanished Last Line: Leaving their yet unforgotten trace. Subject(s): Emptiness; Houses, Deserted; Memory | ||||||||
From the walls the paper's blue is vanished, The daguerreotypes, the ikons banished. Only there the deepened blue appears Where these hid it, hanging through the years. From the heart the memory is perished, Perished all that long ago it cherished! Those remain, of whom death hides the face, Leaving their yet unforgotten trace. | Other Poems of Interest...MEMORY AS A HEARING AID by TONY HOAGLAND THE SAME QUESTION by JOHN HOLLANDER FORGET HOW TO REMEMBER HOW TO FORGET by JOHN HOLLANDER ON THAT SIDE by LAWRENCE JOSEPH MEMORY OF A PORCH by DONALD JUSTICE BEYOND THE HUNTING WOODS by DONALD JUSTICE |
