YOU ARE ALL LOVELY THINGS, by LORENE BYRNES BURNS First Line: You are all lovely things I know in my quiet world Last Line: You are the prayer on my lips. Subject(s): Gratitude; Hearts; Love; Relationships | ||||||||
You are all lovely things I know in my quiet world. When pale pink hollyhocks bloom In the long shadows willows make At dusk, you are beside me In your pale pink gown, listening Surprised, because I have just said, "You are the breath of a fountain Upon me in the cool hours of dawn When birds wake and the morning star Covers itself with a soft blue cloud." You are the hollyhock. You are the fountain. I have always loved your eyes; But I have not told you so. I have not wanted you to know that I love them Because they are more than beautiful. That is a little secret joy I share Only with my happiest self Seeing their light betray your soul to me. I must not tell you your eyes are beautiful As shadows in a cove overhung with wild grape In flower under a midday sun. You are the joy in my heart. You are the shadow in the cove. But most of all it is what I am Because of you that brings a radiant warmth Into my blood, a prayer of gratitude Into my heart. You are my friend. You are the warmth of my blood. You are the prayer on my lips. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AMERICAN WEDDING by ESSEX HEMPHILL PUNK HALF PANTHER by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA LET US GATHER IN A FLOURISHING WAY by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA THE DIFFERENCE by RICHARD HOWARD THE ADVANCE OF THE FATHER by FANNY HOWE ABANDON by LORENE BYRNES BURNS |
