Last Line: And then I'll strike another match.
Subject(s): Love – Nature Of

Your transient love was only a spindling
Match I struck upon my heart;
With leaping flame and brilliant flare
It burned, then flickered out, a dwindling
Fragment leaving a painful smart.

Forgetting you, I shall remember
My heart has borne a stinging scratch --
A newer love perhaps I'll claim,
Replacing yours, a smoking ember,
And then I'll strike another match.
