HEIRS OF TWILIGHT, by HELENE M. BUTEAU First Line: It's the unheard beat of pulsing earth Last Line: Who star the dusk with tears he wept. Alternate Author Name(s): Shock, Buteau Subject(s): Dusk; Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
It's the unheard beat of pulsing earth When day has hushed the drums of light, As the empty air that gives darkness birth When the last barn swallow has winged for night. It's the falling of shadows on driven snow. The sadness that wafts like fragrant musk When skies are melting to indigo; It's the closing of buttercups at dusk. The heirs of twilight forever are born To march on earth where Christ once stepped, The philanthropists of cross and thorn Who star the dusk with tears He wept. | Discover our poem explanations - click here!Other Poems of Interest...LET EVENING COME by JANE KENYON JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE THE FRAILTY AND HURTFULNESS OF BEAUTY by HENRY HOWARD MONNA INNOMINATA, A SONNET OF SONNETS: 14 by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI |
