Her pathway was strewn with rose petals As she walked down the aisle that day To the flower-decked altar of roses Set with beautiful palms, in May. The organ pealed forth sweet music As the ushers marched down the aisle, Then followed the sweet, dainty maidens Gowned as bridesmaids for awhile. The organ was playing so softly While the pastor united the two, And said the few words that should bind them To each other for eternitythrough. Long it has been since they married When they walked down the aisle that day, And promised the lover and sweetheart That they would love each other always. Alas! the groom has forgotten The dear one that he adored, For parts unknown, he has vanished And gone the love he bestowed. | Discover our poem explanations - click here!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AMERICAN HUSBANDS WERE BORN by MATTHEA HARVEY A BLESSING FOR A WEDDING by JANE HIRSHFIELD A SUITE FOR MARRIAGE by DAVID IGNATOW ADVICE TO HER SON ON MARRIAGE by MARY BARBER THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD KISSING AGAIN by DORIANNE LAUX |
