A MOTHER'S WEALTH, by WILLIAM C. CAMERON Poet's Biography First Line: Gi'e to the winds the gowd, it has nae charms for me Last Line: Their love is a' my gear, their smile is bliss to me! Subject(s): Love; Mothers; Wealth; Riches; Fortunes | ||||||||
GI'E to the winds the gowd, it has nae charms for me; My gear's enough, for I ha'e bonnie bairnies three. I wadna gie the look o' their blue laughing e'e, For a' the gowd sae rife wi' those o' high degree. Their wee bit voice sae rich, steals saftly on mine ear, Like music heard from far upon the waters clear! A very wealth o' joy, their wee sweet tiny sang, And while I ha'e them a' there's naething can gae wrang. Their love's a crown to me -- my joy -- and yet my care, The centre o' my thoughts, the burden o' my prayer. O! may the Pow'rs on high guard weel their sunny youth, An' bless my toddlin' lambs wi' health and love and truth! My blessings on them a' -- my bonnie bairnies three; Their love is a' my gear, their smile is bliss to me! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ALL LIFE IN A LIFE by EDGAR LEE MASTERS FOUR POEMS ABOUT JAMAICA: 3.
