DREAMINGS are ever in my heart, Dreamings of sadness and love, That sigh to my yearning spirit, Like music from above. They come with the perfume of song, Through the avenue of years, And the echoes of happier hours Are kissing away my tears. Dreamings that thrill with the sunshine Of summers and golden days, Lit up by a fairy presence That has left earth's weary ways; In the arms of Death's sweet angel, With his smile upon her face, And we're left alone with the mem'ry Of her shy and tender grace. 'Twas the sad time when roses die, In their sweet and rare perfume, Our darling pass'd, like a rose's breath, In the blush of her maiden bloom, Away from regrets and the mortal pain Of this sad world's shadowy night, To rest in the crimson heaven, In fragrant love and light. And still with our spirits yearning, With our sorrow and heart's fond strife, A sweet thought ever commingles The union of after life; When souls that have long been sever'd, Throb back again to rest, In the tender bonds of a heavenly love, On a Saviour's tranquil breast. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS |
