WHAT heart's content can he find, What happy sleeps can his eyes embrace, That bears a guilty mind? His taste sweet wines will abhor: No music's sound can appease the thoughts That wicked deeds deplore. The passion of a present fear Still makes his restless motion there; And all the day he dreads the night, And all the night, as one aghast, he fears the morning light. But he that loves to be loved, And in his deeds doth adore heaven's power. And is with pity moved; The night gives rest to his heart, The cheerful beams do awake his soul, Revived in every part.
