CONCERT FOR EARTH, by HELEN FERGUSON CAUKIN First Line: Sky-strutting tempest wields a windy lash Last Line: In dying, lovely, quivering, misty notes. Subject(s): Earth; World | ||||||||
Sky-strutting Tempest wields a windy lash For his baton, and twirls a swirling pile Of clouds, for stage effect. The Sun's bright smile Is muted. Lightning plays her brilliant flash. The rumbling drums roar out! And cymbals crash! The theme today is Rain: in major style, It tunes Earth's ear to music for awhile As, awed, she listens to this rhythmic plash. The Rain notes fling out passionately, wild; Subsiding, then, to fitful temperament: Staccato dance, and moody discontent; At last, to dripping cadence, calm and mild. About the earth, now, tempest's music floats In dying, lovely, quivering, misty notes. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BROKEN BALANCE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SUBJECTED EARTH by ROBINSON JEFFERS GEOMETAPHYSICS by MARGARET AVISON NIAGARA by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOPHISTICATION by CONRAD AIKEN I SEE CHILE IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR by AGHA SHAHID ALI WASHING OUR HANDS OF THE REST OF AMERICA by MARVIN BELL THE EARTH IS A LIVING THING by LUCILLE CLIFTON TRIBUTE TO ONE WHO FORBIDS IT by HELEN FERGUSON CAUKIN WHERE? by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ON A TREE FALLEN ACROSS THE ROAD (TO HEAR US TALK) by ROBERT FROST |
