MOTHERS, by CATHERINE KEY CAVENDER First Line: Mothers are such lovely things Last Line: I wonder they do not have wings! Subject(s): Mothers | ||||||||
Mothers are such lovely things, I wonder they do not have wings! Their tender bodies cradle us, For us they sound pain's deepest seas; We learn of God, we learn to pray At Mothers' knees! Mothers are such lovely things, I wonder they do not have wings! They guard our helpless years with love, Their loving arms are childhood's nest, They dry our tears, and to our wounds Their lips are pressed! Mothers are such lovely things, I wonder they do not have wings! We may forget, slight them, and scorn, Their love lives on ever the same. We may go down, be steeped in sin; They hide our shame! Mothers are such lovely things! I wonder they do not have wings! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MY MOTHER'S HANDS by ANDREW HUDGINS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS IN THE 25TH YEAR OF MY MOTHER'S DEATH by JUDY JORDAN THE PAIDLIN' WEAN by ALEXANDER ANDERSON BLASTING FROM HEAVEN by PHILIP LEVINE MORNING IN CAMP by HERBERT BASHFORD |
