THIS, THY DAY, by RUTH CRARY CLOUGH First Line: Through monumental windows of stained glass Last Line: The worthy pastor knows... For love of him. Subject(s): Churches; Cathedrals | ||||||||
Through monumental windows of stained glass, Uncertain morning sunlight wanly steals; Kaleidoscopes all comers as they pass: -- Each dowager in splendor as she kneels On padded satin knees, confessing all; Devout young matrons on whose pious breasts Corsages of frail orchids rise and fall. The organ rolls. Birds trill. All manifests Magnificence. The hopeful pastor smiles As ushers, sleek in proper morning clothes, Proceed in order up and down the aisles; Insinuate beneath each Christian nose A silver plate. Gold is a synonym.... The worthy pastor knows... for love of Him. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VIRGIN IN GLASS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE HOUR BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF: 3.
