THE HAPPY VOYAGE, by ETHEL GATES COATES First Line: As those who stand upon an unknown shore Last Line: Our love and faith have glorified the years. Subject(s): Sea Voyages | ||||||||
As those who stand upon an unknown shore To launch a precious vessel, all untried By shock of storm and impact of the tide, Nor heed the wreck of vessels launched before, So we embarked together. Side by side And hand in hand, upon that unknown sea Untried adventurers in life were we, No chart but love our voyaging to guide. There is so little can be sung or told Of uneventful journeys. Sun and rain Are gifts for growth; so ecstasy and pain Burn out the dross and leave the virgin gold. I only know that, come what may of fears, Our love and faith have glorified the years. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV LEAVING FOREVER by DENISE LEVERTOV SAILING HOME FROM RAPALLO by ROBERT LOWELL SHACKLETON by MADELINE DEFREES QE2.
