RAIN-DRENCHED ROSES, by NANETTE NICHOLS COBB First Line: In the brisk early hours of the morning Last Line: Where the clusters are drenched by the rain. Subject(s): Rain | ||||||||
In the brisk early hours of the morning When the birds come to sing their refrain, There I bask in the beauty of roses That were recently kissed by the rain. There that moist morning air bears a fragrance That no poet can ever explain. It's a fragrance found only in roses That are clustered and drenched by the rain. I adore all the dignified white ones For the grandeur and grace they retain; And the deep crimson blush of the red ones As they glitter with mist from the rain. When I go in response to that summons, And when you up on earth shall remain, Will you lay me to rest by the roses Where the clusters are drenched by the rain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DISTANT RAINFALL by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHAMBER MUSIC: 32 by JAMES JOYCE HEAVY SUMMER RAIN by JANE KENYON CROWD CORRALLING by MARGARET AVISON THE RAIN-POOL by KARLE WILSON BAKER ON THE GREAT ATLANTIC RAINWAY by KENNETH KOCH INDIANS by NANETTE NICHOLS COBB SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGUESE: 41 by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING |
