OUTWARD BOUND, by MAUDE E. COLE First Line: I am traveling west Last Line: Is in my mouth. Subject(s): Travel; Journeys; Trips | ||||||||
I am traveling west And my journey ends Where the days burn out As the sun descends, Where the last cool flame, When the night curves around, Slips into the sea Without a sound. Over the trails I have come My thoughts may flee, But a wall of days Will hinder me From going back To the edge of dawn; I am outward bound And must travel on. Though I turn about There is no delay In my journey on The destined way; Whither to the east Or north or south Dust of the west Is in my mouth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
