O little town of Nazareth In the hills of Galilee -- Sweet was the heavenly message borne On angel lips to thee. The choice of all thy maidens Of high and low degree, The message came to Mary, Gentle maid of Galilee. With awe she heard the tidings Which soon were understood -- She, the chosen to be crowned, The Queen of Motherhood. Mother of the Saviour -- Her lips in sweet accord Sang out in thankful praise, "My soul doth magnify the Lord." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MADONNA by KATHARINE LEE BATES BALLADE TO OUR LADY OF CZESTOCHOWA by HILAIRE BELLOC OUR LORD AND OUR LADY by HILAIRE BELLOC PLASTIC BEATITUDE by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR A SONG OF MARY by LUCILLE CLIFTON ISLAND MARY by LUCILLE CLIFTON MARY'S DREAM by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE BIRDS OF VIETNAM by HAYDEN CARRUTH A VOICE FROM THE SWEAT-SHOPS (A HYMN WITH RESPONSES) by LOUIS UNTERMEYER |
