TO MY SECOND SISTER, by LOUISE CONNER First Line: From you I learned the beauty of these things Last Line: I stand to meet the future, head unbowed. Subject(s): Sisters | ||||||||
From you I learned the beauty of these things: The gift of silence on a country lane, A hush on crowded street, quiet that brings Rest to the hands, peace to the soul. Again You taught me freedom with the blessed thought That loneliness can never harm a heart Tuned to the soothing song of silence wrought By stillness of the night. From these apart, I learned your joy in laughter, strong and brave, Your trick of turning dullness into gayety, Of steeling hurt with smiles. And then you gave The gladness of yourself to comfort me. Beside the strength that nature so endowed, I stand to meet the future, head unbowed. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HYMN FOR LANIE POO by AMIRI BARAKA CALMING KALI by LUCILLE CLIFTON FAR MEMORY: 1.
