EVERYWOMAN, by ANNETTE PATTON CORNELL First Line: You were the bridge, beloved Last Line: How shall I rest? | ||||||||
You were the bridge, beloved, by which I spanned chasm and swirling stream. You: a new land. I was the pioneer lured by a dream. You were the open road where I walked free. You were the hedge of thorn sheltering me. Cursed is the dream and dear thorn flowers adorn. You are the barrier I cannot scale, making return and quest of no avail.
