MESA TWILIGHT, by JULIA MAY COURTNEY First Line: Day stalks across the mesa floor Last Line: On its world. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating | |||
Day stalks across the mesa floor And climbing high at evening Tints the jagged peaks With amber And with rose And molten jade. Then striding toward the sea Flings back A filmy purple scarf for coverlet To bind the tired hills And fold the drowsy hollows in first sleep Till Night shall lock the door of silence On its world. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER CREATION by JULIA MAY COURTNEY A LETTER TO HER HUSBAND, ABSENT UPON PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT by ANNE BRADSTREET |
