ALONE! STARK ALONE!, by HARRIET HAMILTON COWELL Last Line: As thou dost love me still. Subject(s): Solitude; Loneliness | ||||||||
Alone! Stark alone! I am alone O God, stretch forth Thy hand That I may find it. The way is weary -- dusty -- long! I am alone! O God, all earthly friends Are far behind me. They have their own! I only am alone! O God, show me the way I cannot see. Alone! Stark alone! Afraid! Beset! O God, speak peace to me And make me forget. Forget the past -- the dark -- the chill -- Forget the present ache and pain. Alone I cannot be As Thou dost love me still. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES |
