THE SHATTERED DREAM, by EVA L. CRAWFORD First Line: Not often do I come to kneel Last Line: And you alone will understand. Subject(s): Mourning; Bereavement | ||||||||
Not often do I come to kneel Beside your body's resting place. The low sweet murmur of the summer winds Brings to me sound of a loved voice forever stilled, And in the tender glow of evening star I see your face; The beauty and the fragrance of a flower Recall for me one blissful hour, A kiss, the tender pressure of your hand; And ere I close my eyes in sleep I know where'er you are That you will hear my, "Goodnight, dear, and pleasant dreams." And you alone will understand. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HUNGERFIELD by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE MOURNER by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN HECUBA MOURNS by MARILYN NELSON THERE IS NO GOD BUT by AGHA SHAHID ALI |
