COSMOS, by LILLIAN CRELLIN First Line: One morning I sat at my window at dawn Last Line: God's whisper of love through all life's long way. Subject(s): Cosmology; Nature; Sight | ||||||||
One morning I sat at my window at dawn And drank in the sweet fragrant breath of the morn; The beauty of earth and sky were most pain And I long for that picture, again and again. At the back of my garden a sight met my eyes, The magic of nature sprang one glad surprise. Beautiful star flowers, pink, red and white, You were truly and surely a wonder delight; Gracefully swaying on stems slender and tall, Dainty bright harbingers of early fall. At the first flush of dawn you turn your sweet faces And welcome her brightly from misty green laces; At noontide beneath the sun's hottest rays You stand straight and tall through warm autumn days. The evening descends along with the dew, But faithful your vigil keep all the night through. In the moonlight you shine so pure and so bright, One thinks that the stars have deigned to alight And are guests of our garden just for tonight. The butterflies love you and so do the bees And the pretty canaries feed on your seeds. Beautiful star flowers of the night and the day, God's whisper of love through all life's long way. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PERSPECTIVE by MARGARET AVISON I TAKE MY GLASSES OFF by LUCILLE CLIFTON EYE AND TOOTH by ROBERT LOWELL SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: DIPPOLD THE OPTICIAN by EDGAR LEE MASTERS FREED FROM ANOTHER CONTEXT by ELEANOR WILNER TIME IS SOME SORT OF HINDSIGHT by ROBERT CREELEY NAMING THE CATARACTS by MADELINE DEFREES THE DOOR IN THE DARK by ROBERT FROST SYMPATHETIC MAGIC by ALBERT GOLDBARTH DON JUAN IN HELL by CHARLES BAUDELAIRE |
