NOW I HAVE LEARNED, by GUY-CHARLES CROS First Line: Now I have learned what women mean by love Last Line: But who at length will crush the head of woman? Subject(s): Betrayal; Disappointment; Learning; Women | ||||||||
Now I have learned what women mean by love: A false game that they play, and know the cheats thereof. I have learned their love is decked in hatred's hues, Where man has naught to find and self to lose. But woman needs her age-old enemy To crowd the desert of her ennui; Two eyes and a smile are all she needs for men ... It's an old, old storywhy tell it all again? Somewhere in the Bible it is said That woman at last will crush the serpent's head. But who at length will crush the head of woman? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ARISTOTLE TO PHYLLIS by JOHN HOLLANDER A WOMAN'S DELUSION by SUSAN HOWE JULIA TUTWILER STATE PRISON FOR WOMEN by ANDREW HUDGINS THE WOMEN ON CYTHAERON by ROBINSON JEFFERS TOMORROW by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD LADIES FOR DINNER, SAIPAN by KENNETH KOCH GOODBYE TO TOLERANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV AT THE LUXEMBOURG by GUY-CHARLES CROS |
