TO ONE WHO NEVER KNEW I CARED, by ELSIE THOMAS CULVER First Line: I wonder what it was that made me say Last Line: And hear you chafe about my woman's club! Subject(s): Love - Loss Of; Relationships; Youth | ||||||||
I wonder what it was that made me say "Good-by," and leave you, dear, that fateful day. How could I stay away, nor even write, Loving you all the while the way I did? Instinct, perhaps. I was too young to know That only if I left you so, I'd keep The you that I had known, beside me, dear, Glorious and beautiful, through all these lengthening years. Instinct, my husband says, guides womenfolk, Where sense and reason, masculine 'tributes, fail. I couldn't bear to know you fat and bald, And hear you chafe about my woman's club! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN |
