HEART'S ECHO, by WESLEY CURTWRIGHT First Line: Time heals the wound, but still the scar is there! Last Line: And with each stab the wound is fresh again! Alternate Author Name(s): Curtright, Wesley Subject(s): Love - Complaints | ||||||||
Time heals the wound, but still the scar is there! And that same spot can never be as strong As is the flesh about it, nor as fair To look upon. And when, with every prong The blood flows freely as when long ago, Before we learned our dreaming to forget, The pain is just as poignant, and we know And feel the wasting fires within us yet. A heart is pierced while tender still and young, And though with passing years it coarser wears, The one whose hand to wounding it has sprung A dagger for that heart forever bears. The heart cannot forget its former pain, And with each stab the wound is fresh again! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TALKING RICHARD WILSON BLUES, BY RICHARD CLAY WILSON by DENIS JOHNSON THE BRIDGE by ALEXANDER ANDERSON THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD MISGIVINGS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS THROUGH AGONY: 1 by CLAUDE MCKAY HEMATITE HEIRLOOM LIVES ON (MAYBE DECEMBER 1980) by ALICE NOTLEY QUICK AND BITTER by YEHUDA AMICHAI |
