CRY OF A LONELY HEART, by E. PEARL DANCEY First Line: I want a boy, a small boy Last Line: I want a boy . . . Who needs me as I need him. Subject(s): Boys | ||||||||
I want a boy, a small boy, A not-so-very-tall boy, A boy of ten, eleven, or perhaps, thirteen. I want a boy to talk with, To take a long walk with, Then home again, to chatter over what we've seen. A gay little, square boy, A sure-of-playing-fair boy. A boy that I can chum with, and mother, and pet. A boy who will love me And never weary of me . . . D' you know a boy like this, that I might get? A motherless, tired boy, An ambition-fired boy. A boy that I can pamper, in every small whim. A hungry little, sad boy . . . A dirty little, bad boy . . . I want a boy . . . who needs me as I need him. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PORTRAIT OF A BOY by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET THOSE BOYS THAT RAN TOGETHER by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE WHITE BOY by LUCILLE CLIFTON COZY APOLOGIA; FOR FRED by RITA DOVE REVELATION 20:11-15 by NORMAN DUBIE BOY'S SLEEP by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE |
