MOMENTS, by MARTHA BRINDLEY DARBYSHIRE First Line: I saw a seagull Last Line: Breathless in the dawn. Subject(s): Birds; Gulls; Memory; Seagulls | |||
I saw a seagull, Clinging hard against the wind, Climb a ladder of rain Up to a low sky. I saw the silver-bodied drops Fall gleaming on his wings, -- Saw him, as he cut the rain, Turn his head sharply And gulp the cool fresh drops, Greedy with thirst and pain. I have shining thoughts That escape the dusk of my mind And go soaring Through the shallows of the sky, Following wonder And a broken word, -- Thoughts that return Refreshed, And waken me Breathless in the dawn. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JUST AS MORNING TWILIGHT AND THE GULLS, GLOUCESTER, MAY 1966 by CHARLES OLSON A POEM BY GARNIE BRAXTON by JAMES WRIGHT GULLS by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS A GULL GOES UP by LEONIE ADAMS UNDER THE WHARF by IDA COLE BARTLATT THE SEAGULL by HERBERT BASHFORD THE GOLDEN CORPSE by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET |
