VOICES OF SCORN, by                 Poet Analysis
First Line: When I had thought my end was near
Last Line: Reproves me with its wholesome laughter!
Alternate Author Name(s): Davies, W. H.
Subject(s): Disdain; Scorn

When I had thought my end was near,
And I must soon prepare to die –
'Be quick! Be quick!' the Mavis called,
And 'Haw, Haw, Haw!' the Rooks did cry.

What bird, with even greater scorn,
Has come so quickly following after?
Is this the Chaffinch – how his voice
Reproves me with its wholesome laughter!
