SONNET, by MARGARET DELANEY First Line: I shall not stoop to cavil with you now Last Line: Faint vagrant whisperings. ... When hearts are old. | ||||||||
I shall not stoop to cavil with you now Of this or that, or seek to place the blame; No idle words restore a sacred vow And broken friendships never are the same. Let life go on ... if I can just forget That sacred altar fire lit with you, While Memory keeps a little votive light For all the happy carefree days we knew. For dreams are fragile things to patch or mend! Better to let the scattered fragments fly To mingle with the star dust and to send From vasty, mystic realms of blue on high In some dark year a little glint of gold. ... Faint vagrant whisperings. ... when hearts are old. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...GHOST ARMIES by MARGARET DELANEY REQUIEM FOR A PIONEER MOTHER by MARGARET DELANEY THE DESERT LAND by MARGARET DELANEY TONE PICTURE (MALIPIERO: IMPRESSONI DAL VERO) by JEAN STARR UNTERMEYER JACK AND JILL (1) by MOTHER GOOSE HAUNTED by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH |
