TELL ME, SONG-BIRD, by K. DEVRISH First Line: Gay song-bird, on your journey back to spring Last Line: My heart without your message throbs and grieves. Subject(s): Birds; Seasons | ||||||||
Gay song-bird, on your journey back to Spring, You flew by ruin, skimmed by greening field; On mulberry branches rested weary wing, Whose leafy greenness all but song concealed. There did you hear the flute-song of my grief? And carry notes of sorrow on your flight To one who merits trusting and belief -- To one whose caring makes the hours bright? Through Summer, Winter, waiting Spring's return I listened for your song upon the wind. But March gales answered, desperate and stern. When April's fingers on the branches pinned The bursting buds and little greening leaves, My heart without your message throbs and grieves. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NO AUTUMN IN MY COUNTRY by MEENA ALEXANDER AFTER TU FU (THEY SAY YOU'RE STAYING IN A MOUNTAIN TEMPLE) by MARVIN BELL HE HAD A GOOD YEAR by MARVIN BELL SO IT'S TODAY by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR CONTRA MORTEM: THE FALL by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
