WHEAT, by FRANCIS ALEXANDER DEWSON First Line: When I went through the rustling wheat Last Line: You march and conquer with your quiet feet. Alternate Author Name(s): Dewson, F. A. Subject(s): Wheat | ||||||||
When I went through the rustling wheat I saw slim maidens with quiet feet. I heard a shouting and I heard a praise For the golden bounty of the sun-filled days. I felt a breathing and I felt a rapture, A subtle ecstacy I could not capture; For the wheat was taking from the mother Earth Life to its living and seed for its birth, Joy for its living and wealth for its days, Rustling and swaying in a rhythm of praise. Slim and golden chorus of the lyric wheat You march and conquer with your quiet feet. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A THRESHER OF WHEAT TO THE WYNDES by JOACHIM DU BELLAY KANSAS (2) by HARRY HIBBARD KEMP SONG OF THE WHEAT by ANDREW BARTON PATERSON IN A WHEAT FIELD by CHARLES DAVIS PLATT WHAT IT TAKES by DOROTHY F.
