A PROSPECTIVE FATHER STANDS BEFORE THE DOOR OF A DELIVERY ROOM ..., by MARION DOYLE First Line: Now she has gone on this dark pilgrimage Last Line: Oh armor her with the strong shield of my love. Alternate Author Name(s): Doyle, Marion Stauffer Subject(s): Birth; Child Birth; Midwifery | ||||||||
Now she has gone on this dark pilgrimage ... Her dancing feet have their sunny slope To wander through a place where flesh must grope With agony and death ... alone to wage This conflict ... even love cannot assuage The burning fangs of Pain, that misanthrope, Her enemy, with whom I may not cope; Who will not take my body as hostage For her release -- not even one racked hour ... Will she return, bearing the precious fruit Of love-sown seed that bore our rapture's flower ... Or not return? God, this is a moment to confute The works of nature, all the ways thereof ... Oh armor her with the strong shield of my love. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WHY I AM AFRAID OF TURNING THE PAGE by CATE MARVIN ACCIDENTS OF BIRTH by WILLIAM MEREDITH ONE FOR ALL NEWBORNS by THYLIAS MOSS CURRICULUM VITAE by LISEL MUELLER FOUND IN THE CABBAGE PATCH by LISEL MUELLER LETTER TO SAINT PETER by MARION DOYLE |
