TO A SCARLET TANAGER, by GLENN WARD DRESBACH First Line: O spark, you winged from secret woodland forges Last Line: You gave the clue and we must find the rest. Subject(s): Birds; Tanagers | ||||||||
O Spark, you winged from secret woodland forges Where starry hammers beat a tune of dreams; Their smoke hangs fragrant blue mist in the gorges, Their pulse is throbbing wildly in the streams. You are a presence from recurrent wonder That patterns through the urge into the leaf. On quivering flanks of the retreating thunder Your notes turn banners, glorious and brief. Brief like the rapture that this day uncloses, O fitting song that sings long after still . . . You show the path -- we seek the wild new roses, You hint of distance -- and we climb the hill. Against the woodland's haze your flaming breast! You gave the clue and we must find the rest. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TANAGER by ABBIE FARWELL BROWN THE SCARLET TANAGER by MARY AUGUSTA MASON NEW TANAGER / NEW SONG by JACQUELINE OSHEROW AUTUMN SONG by GLENN WARD DRESBACH HAUNTED HOUSE by GLENN WARD DRESBACH HAWK IN THE TWILIGHT by GLENN WARD DRESBACH HURDY-GURDY by GLENN WARD DRESBACH IF SCARS ARE WORTH THE KEEPING by GLENN WARD DRESBACH LOST VALLEY by GLENN WARD DRESBACH |
