SHADOWS AT CLOSE OF DAY, by OLIVER MURRAY EDWARDS First Line: A pekinese lay dreaming Last Line: Shadows at close of day. Subject(s): Night; Peace; Shadows; Silence; Sleep; Soul; Bedtime | ||||||||
A Pekinese lay dreaming Upon a cushioned chair, His growls like distant thunder Disturbed the peaceful air. An Emperor was scheming Behind his palace door, Of glory too was dreaming, Of conquest, strife, and gore. A Prelate famed was preaching, Within great walls of stone, Sounds reached the nave and ceiling From thoughts that were his own. The world through space revolving Was passing on its way, The night was fast approaching; Shadows at close of day. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN A CHRISTMAS CAROL AND ANTHEM by OLIVER MURRAY EDWARDS |
