WESTERN NIGHT, by MARIE ELY First Line: Moon magic / touching all with madness Last Line: Reclaims its starlit sovereignty. Subject(s): Night; Bedtime | ||||||||
Moon magic Touching all with madness; Subtle sorcery Of a star-tipped scepter; Still serenity Lulling one to silence. Clouds creep Like fleecy phantoms Over the sky, Obscuring stars and moon. The dynasty of shadow Now shows itself supreme. A hushed cry From the haunted mesa comes; Its muted sadness Slowly fades away, and silver silence Reclaims its starlit sovereignty. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN DOMESDAY BOOK: ELENOR MURRAY by EDGAR LEE MASTERS |
