MY WISH, by MILDRED ESTUS First Line: My wish is not small Last Line: No less. Subject(s): Wishes | ||||||||
My wish is not small Nor yet too great for giving. It is not for satins and jewels, Not diamonds from Kimberley or rubies from India Or fire opals from Mexico; Not satins highly hued, not velvets Nor stiff brocades; Not laces made by northern peasant women, Nor embroideries from Oriental hands; No works of art from bygone ages, No canvas from a master's hand, No marble of a genius' inspiration, No bronze cast with painstaking care, No etching of a modern artist. My wish is for more than these. These can only be lost or worn out Or broken or torn or stolen or burned -- They remain things, possessions. What I want is part of Essential Being, No less. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...O TO BE A DRAGON by MARIANNE MOORE FOUNTAIN IN AVIGNON by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE HOUR BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF: 1.
