Sparing the rod,
And treating her with Jesus' mercy mild --
God bless you, God.

For keeping her from looking very old
From pain and fraud,
From death by violence and catching cold --
God bless you, God.

For understanding that a girl may tire
And entertain an impious desire
And still not visiting her with your righteous ire --
God bless you, God!
