MAD MORNING MOONLIGHT OF HAWAII, by DOROTHY FAY First Line: I leaned from my casement long ere the dim dawn Last Line: Shining, silver shining, evermore, evermore. Subject(s): Hawaii; Night; Bedtime | ||||||||
I leaned from my casement long ere the dim dawn, Diamond Head crouching on my left, I only a pawn. Lights on the palm fringed shore, You, silver moon shining, waves caressing forevermore. Your beauty beguiling, enchanting, alluring, And there in the distance, the cable ship at its mooring. Your bright crystal shining pierces my brain, Waters silver-flecked by your stain. Who is it stands there, beckoning me on? 'Tis one that I lost in days that are gone. List to the music of moon-maddening lilt, The waters are turning from silver to gilt. You woke me from slumber, gray, silver and amber, You fascinating, undulating, Moon-tossed, captivating, Waters on a western shore. Silvery, shivery moon, voluptuous, luxuriate, Thrillingly passionate, you fire me with longing, Your rapture is enthralling, And soon it will be morning. Then you'll be disappearing, Taking with you charms endearing, You, maddening, saddening moon, Shining, silver shining, evermore, evermore. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN PROTESTS (AFTER A PAINTING BY HUGO BALLIN) by LOUIS UNTERMEYER |
