ZUNI DAYBREAK, by WILLIAM FELTER First Line: With wistful eyes turned to the east Last Line: The breath of summer comes. Subject(s): Dawn; Sunrise | ||||||||
With wistful eyes turned to the east She waits the break of dawn Before the first bird notes are heard, Before the stars are gone . . . As one by one the stars fade out All glorious breaks the sun Above the eastern horizon; The long, long night is done. Flutelike the early songster's lay Wakes up the sleeping braves, While echoing from the nearby glades Come answering vocal waves. From every hogan smoke plumes curl Good morning orisons, As down the flowering forest aisles The breath of summer comes. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR BURNING DAWN by HAYDEN CARRUTH DAWN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON IN THE GARDEN AT THE DAWN HOUR by EDGAR LEE MASTERS EARLY RISER by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE |
