SUNSET CLOUDS, by MAUD BROCKETT FINCH First Line: The sunset clouds are gathering over yonder in the west Last Line: Oh! Sunset clouds, good-by. Subject(s): Clouds; Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
The sunset clouds are gathering over yonder in the west, While the sun is sinking slowly as all nature goes to rest; The gold and silver lining shows the clouds in bright array, As the evening shadows linger at the closing of the day. Oh! Sunset Clouds, we love thee. No one can paint the beauty of the sunset clouds so fair; Their rainbow tints are glittering like jewels rich and rare, A flame of light and glory as they're rolling o'er and o'er In perfect gleams of splendor that will last forevermore. Oh! Sunset Clouds, we adore thee. The twilight shadows lengthen scattering dewdrops on the flowers, The sunset clouds are hovering o'er all the leafy bowers. Be quick, my soul, to grasp the hand that paints them in the sky, The Lord of all the Universe, no mortal can deny. Oh! Sunset Clouds, good-by. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE THE POET'S TESTAMENT by GEORGE SANTAYANA GROWING GRAY by HENRY AUSTIN DOBSON MEDITATIONS OF A HINDU [OR, HINDOO] PRINCE [AND SKEPTIC] by ALFRED COMYNS LYALL |
