CAMEL'S HUMP, by PERRIN BACHELLOR FISK First Line: The camel's hump is there on high Last Line: As a warning against racing! Subject(s): Camels | ||||||||
The Camel's Hump is there on high. His head, the sages think, Is by the river's brink, where once He ran to kneel and drink. But, stumbling in his thirsty haste, He threw his rider high, And there lies Mansfield as he fell, A-staring at the sky. 'T is said this very daring youth Of giant pride and birth Had laid a bet on Time, to ride The camel round the earth. But, over-driven and weary too, Here ended all their pacing! The Fates decreed them thus to lie As a warning against racing! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE DROMEDARY by HILAIRE BELLOC THE PLAINT OF THE CAMEL by CHARLES EDWARD CARRYL THE GOLDEN ODES OF PRE-ISLAMIC ARABIA: IMR EL KAIS by WILFRID SCAWEN BLUNT THE GOLDEN ODES OF PRE-ISLAMIC ARABIA: TARAFA by WILFRID SCAWEN BLUNT THE LEGEND OF THE FIRST CAM-U-EL; AN ARABIAN APLOGUE by ARTHUR GUITERMAN |
