Not for you alone, though my defenseless
Woman heart grows faint with tenderness
Before the memory of that helpless mold
Of flesh, its story ever now untold,
But for all dreams, ideals, and hopes that lie
Unseen, unknown within life's womb, to die
The death most pitiable of all, the death
That precedes life and never knows one breath --
For all man's noble deeds and dreams stillborn
Condemned by alien force -- for these I mourn.
