LINES WRITTEN AT TAORMINA, SICILY, by JOHN GOULD FLETCHER Poet's Biography First Line: Here on the dark rocks Last Line: Nods a drowsy head. Subject(s): Sicily | ||||||||
Here on the dark rocks Of the land's verge, I hear the wind's shout, The murmer of surge. Like a rabble afar, Its applauding cries, Millions in number, Confusedly rise. So the myriad-voiced Cold ancient one Sends up his song Of praise to the sun. The winds above him Stride and are free. They pry in the rocks, Where wallows the sea: Till into dark clefts They suddenly fall, And he seizes them swiftly: While, over all, Smilingly white Over deep-blue shade, The far snow-peak Nods a drowsy head. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MAMILLIA: VERSES AGAINST THE GENTLEWOMEN OF SICILIA by ROBERT GREENE ANTIQUE COIN by JOSE-MARIA DE HEREDIA (1842-1905) ODE TO SICILY by WALTER SAVAGE LANDOR TRAGEDIES: 8 by THEOPHILE JULIUS HENRY MARZIALS SONNET: ISLES OF SCILLY by ARTHUR THOMAS QUILLER-COUCH SICILIAN ARETHUSA by HORACE SMITH SICILY, DECEMBER, 1908 by HENRY VAN DYKE GOATS by CHARLES ERSKINE SCOTT WOOD THE SICILIAN by GEORGE EDWARD WOODBERRY ARIZONA POEMS: 2.
