ELEPHANT, by
First Line: A prehistoric boulder
Last Line: Walks in the circus parade.
Subject(s): Animals; Circus; Elephants

A prehistoric boulder,
Lying a million years
In mud and clay,
Moves strangely forward.
A gray and ancient mound,
Whose furrowed sides
Heave—for the first time—
Walks in the circus parade.
