CHRISTMAS MORN - THEN AND NOW, by RHODA HARTMAN FOGLE First Line: Gray dawn, pale candlelight, and bubbling glee Last Line: With mother -- heart and soul, what joys have we! Subject(s): Christmas; Christmas Gifts; Nativity, The | ||||||||
Gray dawn, pale candlelight, and bubbling glee Of childish ecstasy. Oh, see, ahoy! Beneath the gayly glitt'ring Christmas tree, A life-sized doll. What paroxysms of joy! Gray dawn, dimm'd chapel lights, and vested choir That chants of Christ's Nativity. A tear Of joy, a soul enthralled in radiant fire Of awe -- a mutual dream with Mary, clear! The snows of thirty years -- of happy years -- Have brought their worries, cares, and painful woes; But, too, their wisdom, wealth of joys and cheers Enrich the worth of life, whence Love's spring flows. Dear Child, fondling that selfsame doll! I see With Mother -- heart and soul, what joys have we! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DIFFERENT VIEWS; A CHRISMAS DUET by JOSEPH ASHBY-STERRY AN UNMERRY CHRISTMAS by AMBROSE BIERCE CHRISTMAS IN CHINATOWN by AUGUST KLEINZAHLER CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS ISAIAH'S COAL by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
