FOR A NUN, by LEO T. FOLEY First Line: Mary - o mother of sorrow and queen of heaven! Last Line: Fold her, with tenderest love, to thy waiting heart. Subject(s): Mary. Mother Of Jesus; Women In The Bible; Virgin Mary | ||||||||
Mary -- O Mother of sorrow and Queen of Heaven! Free from the guilt and the stain of all earthly things; Thou, to whom purity, patience, and grace were given, Vouchsafe a glance at the treasure this moment brings. Here is our gift: she is fair as the rose at dawning, Pure as the clouds that are wafted across the skies; Now, on a carpet of faith beneath Heaven's awning, Slowly she moves toward the stairway to Paradise. Lead her, O Mother of God! in thy holy footsteps, Watch and protect her, and keep her from sin apart; Then, when her morning sky turns to golden sunset, Fold her, with tenderest love, to thy waiting heart. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MADONNA by KATHARINE LEE BATES BALLADE TO OUR LADY OF CZESTOCHOWA by HILAIRE BELLOC OUR LORD AND OUR LADY by HILAIRE BELLOC PLASTIC BEATITUDE by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR A SONG OF MARY by LUCILLE CLIFTON ISLAND MARY by LUCILLE CLIFTON MARY'S DREAM by LUCILLE CLIFTON |
